Guest Rooms B and B
B and B
After the marriage of Alienor and Henry II, Aquitaine and Poitou joined to the kingdom of England. Then the castle lost its military interest. It fell into the hands of the Martel family for two centuries and later to different owners, from which Louvois, a minister of the french king Louis XV.
From the successive constructions remain mainly buildings of the XVth century : the châtelet of entrance and a wooden gallery, inscribed to the Register of Historic Buildings.
Located 4 miles from Fontevraud abbay, which was built on the lands of Roiffé parish, la Roche Martel is not far from the Casttles of the south of Loire (Chinon, Azay-le-Rideau, Saumur, Brézé,…), not far from roman churches of Poitou.
We are also closed to the lands of Rabelais (Lerné and Seuilly , birthplace of the famous french post-medieval writer), to sources of the acadian colony of Canada and Louisiana.
In Loudun we can find the tracks of a rich city destroyed by Richelieu, of the devils of Loudun (Urbain Grandier and Ursuline sisters), Renaudot ( physician and journalist).
Under restoration, La Roche Martel received the prize VMF in 2007 for the conservation of a house of character.
